In many Nigerian universities today, a change of course of study is permitted, but this is based on the fact that the changes reflect upward to downward. What this means is that you can only come down, but you cannot move up.
For example, a candidate studying law can change to English, however, someone studying English cannot change to law.
When you want to change your course, you will not get the best courses. You would rather get a course that is rated very low.
NB: Changes for Course/Institution, Names, Date of Birth, Gender, State/LGA of Origin, etc., cost N2,500 (two thousand five hundred naira only).
What is JAMB Change Of Course?
Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) course change is a process established for JAMB applicants who want to change the course they intend to study in a higher institution after registering with JAMB.
Candidates apply for JAMB Course Change for the following reasons:
- Their preferred institution does not study their planned course.
- They discovered an error in their subject combination and wish to correct it.
- Some candidates use JAMB Change of Course because they no longer want to study the course that they had selected during JAMB registration.
Note: JAMB Change of Course can only be processed at JAMB CBT Centres nationwide.
How Much Does a JAMB Change of Course Cost?
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set a two thousand five hundred Naira fee for Data Correction. This means you’ll have to pay JAMB two thousand five hundred Naira (N2,500). You will also have to pay the CBT Centre an additional seven hundred Naira (N700) as a service fee for the process.
Are you wondering why you should pay this additional cost? You must pay since JAMB Change of Course can only be handled at JAMB CBT Centres nationwide. Additionally, the minimum or typical cost imposed by CBT Centres to process any document for candidates is N700. That means, you will complete your JAMB Change of Course with a total of N3,200 (N2,500 + N700).
Note: Because most payments are made online through the REMITA platform, it is recommended that you bring extra cash with you because there may be fees from this online payment platform. That is, you can preserve an extra N500 from the N3,200 (N2,500 + N700) in case you are required to pay for the online payment platform expenses.

Why change your UTME course/institution in 2023?
JAMB score is low.
If you want to gain admission this year, this is the most crucial reason to get a change of course form. Choose less competitive courses to guarantee your admission. If you score 230 on the JAMB exam, you won’t get admitted into medicine and surgery, even if you have connections. I would strongly suggest that you change to a less competitive but associated with medicine, such as physiotherapy, anatomy, biochemistry, etc.
You can always switch to medicine and surgery in your second year of school if you score excellent grades in your first year.
The previous year’s cut-off marks
This is another common mistake that students make. If you didn’t meet last year’s cut-off mark, there’s a slim chance that this year’s cut-off mark will be reduced. Let me be clear: it is quite unlikely that the cut-off marks will drop as the students who are taking the JAMB exam grow every year.
Extremely competitive courses
As I previously stated, if you choose extremely competitive courses such as medicine and surgery or law, you run the risk of missing out on your admission for that year. You should pick competitive courses only if you score higher than the allotted cut-off mark. Those who barely make the previous year’s cut-off mark, on the other hand, should change their course as soon as JAMB begins selling the form.
