You should be aware that States in the same Geopolitical Zones cannot be selected at the same time. The country is divided into geo-political zones.

Here is everything you need to know about picking a state to serve in.

NYSC Posting 2024

The NYSC board has added a new step to the registration process. Prospective Corps members can now choose at least four states from which to be deployed, albeit the board ultimately chooses one.

Here is a guide to determining your state of service:

You may select only four (4) states from the list below, one (1) from each of our six (6) geopolitical zones.

How to Choose Your Preferred NYSC State

As we said, you have the opportunity to choose a State of National Service from the Geopolitical Zones outlined above. Here is how to choose:

  • You must choose one State from the North Central Zone
  • One State from either the North-East or North-West Zones
  • One State each from the Southeast and South-South  Zones
  • And then, you must choose one State from the South-West Zone.

Remember that from the four selected states, NYSC will deploy you to one of them at random, as determined by the NYSC system.

Note that it is not 100% guaranteed to be sent to any of the four states you choose. NYSC reserves the right to send you to any State in Nigeria.

For you to be able to get your preferred state, make sure you register early.

Factors Affecting NYSC Posting

Course of study

The particular course of study chosen can influence your posting. This mostly applies to place of primary assignment posting. For instance, if your chosen course of study is education you are likely to be posted in a school rather than a factory or health institution.

Place of origin

Another important factor is your place of origin. There is the fact that you can’t choose your state of study & your state of origin. You are mandated to pick one state from any 3 geopolitical zones.

Marital status

Married women are usually posted to the state where their husband is domiciled. All they have to do is specify their maritial status and provide evidence of marriage.

Most Popular NYSC Posting States

  • Lagos State
  • Ebonyi State
  • Akwa Ibom
  • Enugu State
  • Sokoto
  • Niger State
  • Delta State
  • Ekiti State
  • Kano State
  • Ogun State
  • Osun State
  • Abia State
  • Jigawa State
  • Oyo State
  • Cross River State
  • Bayelsa State
  • Zamfara State
