  • The National Examination Council (NECO) conducts a separate BECE for Federal Unity Colleges, Armed Forces Secondary Schools, and other federal establishments.
  • Students from private and mission schools can participate in NECO BECE if their state ministry of education approves.
  • Candidates take a minimum of ten and a maximum of thirteen subjects at the BECE level.

About the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) Examination

The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is an examination students in their last year of junior secondary school take. The transition from JSS 3 (basic education class) to senior secondary school is made with this.

Each federation state and the FCT give the BECE to their own candidates, but NECO does it for Federal Unity Colleges and other schools that work with them. Private secondary schools that are interested can also take the examination, as long as they are allowed to by the education ministries of their states. A BECE certificate takes the place of a primary school certificate as the first school-leaving certificate.

Schools and candidates should note the following:

  • Where the time on the question paper differs from the time on this timetable, the time on the question paper should be strictly adhered to.

  • Practicals in Business Studies and Basic Science & Technology (BST) should be in sets where the number of candidates is large and the equipment cannot be moved. However, the practical examination should not exceed 5.00 pm. Computers can be used for Business Studies.

  • Albinos and Blind Candidates are to be given 30 minutes extra time in all subjects.

  • Blind Candidates must make use of NECO-supplied OBR Customised Braille Sheet for the Examination.

  • BRINGING INTO THE EXAMINATION HALL ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION GADGETS (PROGRAMMABLE CALCULATORS, MOBILE PHONES, IPADS, TABLETS, SMART WRIST WATCHES/GLASSES/PENS ETC) ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Keep in mind that the examination board can change this schedule whenever they think it’s necessary. Because of this, you should check this page every so often to make sure you don’t miss anything if there are any changes.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that I will not be able to share the Junior WAEC Timetable 2024 for all of Nigeria’s states. So, we highly recommend that you get in touch with the BECE Office in your state to find out more about the examination.
