For some time now, there has been a controversy in Christiandom as regards the authenticity of the book of Enoch.
A lot of people are of the view that if the book really mattered, it would have been meant for the people that existed before Christ because the book was more than 300 years old when Jesus Christ was on earth.
Some people are of the view that the book is authentic because Jesus, while on earth, literally said things that pointed directly to the book. for instance;
In Mark 12, when Jesus was in a dialogue with the Sadducees, a question came up about marriage in heaven. Jesus answered them and said that they erred in their question because they do not know the Scriptures. He then proceeded to explain that angels do not marry.
Carrying out a thorough search in the Bible, you’d see that there is really a place in the Bible that talks about angels not marrying, but yet Jesus rebuked them for not knowing Scripture.
1st Enoch 15 quotes; the “Lord of spirits” declares that because the angels are everlasting, they have not been appointed wives.
You would agree with me that this is the first and only place to talk about angels marrying, and if Jesus equated knowing the Scripture to “knowing that angels do not marry”.
How Did the Book of Enoch Relate to Jesus’ Quotes in the New Testament Book?
Below are some of Jesus’ quotes from the New Testament and their linkages to the book of Enoch.
- (John 14:2): In my Father’s house are many mansions.
(Enoch 45:3): In that day shall the Elect One sit upon a throne of glory, and shall choose their conditions and countless habitations. - (John 12:36): That ye may be called the children of light.
(Enoch 108:11 {105: 25}): The good from the generation of light. - (John 4:14): The water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
(Enoch 48:1 {48:1}): All the thirsty drank, and were filled with wisdom, having their habitation with the righteous, the elect, and the holy. - (Mat 5:5): Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. (Mat 5:5)
(Enoch 5:7 {6:9}): The elect shall possess light, joy, and peace, and they shall inherit the earth.
(John 5:22): The Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the son.
(Enoch 69:27 {68:39}): The principal part of the judgment was assigned to him, the Son of man.
(Mat. 19:29): Those shall inherit everlasting life.
(Enoch 40:9 {40:9}): Who will inherit eternal life.
- (Luke 6:24): “Wo unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.
(Enoch 94:8 {93:7}): Woe to you who are rich, for in your riches have you trusted; but from your riches, you shall be removed. - (Matt. 19:28): Ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
(Enoch 108:12 {105:26}): I will place each of them on a throne of glory. - (Mat. 26:24): Woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born.
(Enoch 38:2 {38:2}): Where will the habitation of sinners be . . . who has rejected the Lord of spirits? It would have been better for them, had they never been born. - (Luke 16:26): Between us and you, there is a great gulf fixed.
(Enoch 22: 9,11{22:10,12}): By a chasm . . . [are] their souls are separated.
Why did they remove the Book of Enoch?
The Book of Enoch was viewed as scriptural in the Epistle of Barnabas (16:4), as well as by many early Church Leaders, including Athenagoras, Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus, and Tertullian, who wrote around 200 that the Jews had dismissed the Book of Enoch since it includes prophecies about Christ.
How Should Christians Treat the Book of Enoch?
Christians should regard the Book of Enoch like they treat other apocryphal literature. A few of Apocrypha’s assertions are accurate and factual, yet most of them are false and completely erroneous. IIf you choose to study these texts, they can be enjoyed as a novel with historical stories. You are not authorized to interpret them as God’s immutable, flawless, unambiguous, and powerful Word. However, we strongly advise you to proceed with diligence and discernment when reading any of these works. If you feel affected by Apocrypha’s words, put the texts away. Also, make it a point to read the Bible every day.
Although it’s entertaining to read non-biblical novels published thousands of years ago, believing in God’s Word is much more valuable.
With the proofs listed already, I will leave you to what you want to believe whether the book of Enoch is authentic or not.
That Jesus would quote the book of Enoch numerous times (as did his brother), and that he chastises the Sadducees “to know the scriptures”, while quoting from Enoch, and then have some “commenter” say Enoch is not scriptural, that is freaking bizarre to me.
Would I trust Jesus, or would I trust a commentator?
Jesus quotes the book, obviously endorses. But His followers should take it with a grain of salt.
So would Jesus lead His sheep into darkness?
BoE represent other Gospel.
Answer me these:
Acccording to Bible:
– who is set over all powers?
– what name has been given us, to inherit eternal life?
Both questions: Jesus
the Word of God:
Act 4:12
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
and
Mathew 28:18 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”
But:
Book of Enoch 40:9 “And the fourth, who is in charge of repentance and hope of those who inherit the eternal life, is PHANUEL”
Book of Enoch 40:9
“and the third, who is set over all the powers, is Gabriel”
Gabiel has all the power and Phanuel is the name in whom we may inherit eternal life, according the BoE.
which one do you trust?
Exactly! The man was a prophet!
I know the truth, soon all shall see and understand, the world is at a turnpoint…Enoch’s book tells the truth
