There are necessary requirements to qualify to study any of the above-named Art courses in Universities, Polytechnics or Colleges in Nigeria.
The SSCE and UTME requirements for these Art courses are as follows:
1. African and Asian Studies
O’Level Requirements
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include Nigerian Languages (Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo), English Language and any other Arts subject.
UTME Subjects
Nigerian Languages (Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo) and two (2) subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.
2. Anthropology
O’Level Requirements
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include one of Government/History, Religious Studies, Geography and Economics.
UTME Subjects
Any three (3) of History, CRS/Islamic Studies, Geography, Economics, Literature-in-English and French.
3. Arabic and Islamic Studies
O’Level Requirements
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English, Arabic and three (3) other relevant subjects.
UTME Subjects
Arabic and two (2) subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.
4. Archaeology
O’Level Requirements
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language and one (1) of the following subjects, Religious Studies, Geography, Economics and History.
UTME Subjects
Any two (2) subjects from Arts, Social Sciences and one (1) of History, Religious Studies, Government and Geography.
5. Arts (Combined Honors)
O’Level Requirements
Five (5) SSCE credit passes to include English Language and the subjects to be combined.
UTME Subjects
The subjects to be combined and one other subject.
6. Chinese Studies
O’Level Requirements
For programme A, five (5) SSCE credit passes, including English Language and French.
For Programme B, credit passes in English and four (4) other subjects.
UTME Subjects
For Programme A, French and any other two (2) subjects.
For Programme B, any three (3) subjects.
7. Christian Religious Knowledge/Studies
O’Level Requirements
Five (5) SSCE credit passes in English Language, CRS and three (3) other relevant subjects.
UTME Subjects
Two (2) Arts subjects, including CRS and any other subject.
8. Classical Studies
O’Level Requirements
Five (5) SSCE credit passes at one sitting or Six (6) SSC credit passes at two (2) sittings to include English Language, Literature in English or History, one Arts or Social Science subject and any other subject.
UTME Subjects
Literature in English or History and any other two (2) subjects.
9. Communication and Language Arts
O’Level Requirements
Five SSCE credit passes or equivalent including English Language, Literature-in-English, Arts/Music depending on the combination.
UTME Subjects
Any three (3)Arts or Social Science subjects.
10. Comparative Religious Studies
O’Level Requirements
Five SSCE credit passes to include the English Language, Islamic Studies/CRS and three (3) other Arts/Social Sciences/Science subjects.
UTME Subjects
CRS/IS and two (2) other Arts or Social Science subjects.
11. Creative Arts/Visual Arts/Fine and Applied Arts/Design/Visual and Applied Arts
O’Level Requirements
Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language and Fine Arts For holders of NTC.
The relevant subjects could be General Woodwork, Building/Engineering Drawing, Introduction to Building Construction; Decorative Painting; Spray Painting, Lining, Sign and Design; Wall hanging, Colour Mixing/Matching and Glazing; Printing Origination; Machine Printing and Finishing; General Metal Work, Basic Electricity, Spinning, Weaving, Surface Design and Printing; Bleaching, Dyeing and Finishing; Graphic Design; Graphics Printing and Ceramics.
UTME Subjects
Fine Arts and two (2) other Arts subjects or Social Science subjects.
12. Criminology and Security Studies
O’Level Requirements
Five ‘O’ level credit passes or equivalent including English Language, Mathematics, Economics, and any two Arts or Social Sciences, History, Civics or Geography at not more than two sittings.
UTME Subjects
Economics, Government, and any one of the following: History, Geography, Literature in English, French, IS, Hausa.
13. Drama/Dramatic Arts/Performing Arts/Theatres Arts
O’Level Requirements
Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language and Arts subjects.
UTME Subjects
Literature in English and two (2) other relevant subjects.
14. Economics/Development Studies
O’Level Requirements
Five SSCE credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and at least two (2) other relevant subjects from Commerce, Government and Accounting.

Five SSCE credit passes or equivalent, including English Language and Efik.
