What’s YouWin! Connect?
The YouWin programme aims to support young Nigerian entrepreneurs as they PLAN, START and GROW their businesses, by providing Enterprise Education as well as access to technical and consulting services. The programme aims to promote entrepreneurship, job creation and wealth via enterprise education for young Nigerians. Read more on the Youwin about page here
YouWin Nigeria is the biggest grant platform that’s organized by the Federal Ministry of Finance with the aim to fostering entrepreneurship, job development, and wealth generation among young Nigerians through entrepreneurial education.
Through appropriate SME development tools, Nigerian entrepreneurs will increase their production.
YouWin! Support these businesses in industries that coincide with the government’s goal of developing the economy and encouraging competition and transparency.
The first edition, dubbed YouWin!1, was created to raise awareness among ambitious entrepreneurial youth about the importance of financing their business concepts to create jobs.
To be eligible, you must:
- Applicants must have post-secondary school qualifications.
- Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 40.
- Applicants must be Nigerians and residents in Nigeria.
- Applicants’ businesses must be domiciled in Nigeria.
- Applicants must be able to communicate effectively – speaking and writing – in English.
- Applicants must be willing to attend all training and mentoring exercises organized by the program.
- Applicants must not be an employee of the Nigerian Civil Service.
- Previous YouWiN awardees are not eligible to apply.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: From what I’ve observed on their website, it seemed as if YouWin is not offering these programmes at the moment. However, do check their contact website below so as to stay updated if the programme is ongoing or not.
YouWin Application 2021: Register for the Business Plan Competition
- Visit https://apply.youwin.org.ng/registerp.php
- Click on the green Register button on the page.
- Enter your personal details on the page that loads up. Then Hit the Register button.
- Visit apply.youwinconnect.org.ng/login. Enter your details and log in.
- Carefully follow the steps outlined there to proceed with your YouWin connect application.

YouWIN evaluation process
YouWiN! is a nationwide business plan challenge sponsored by the Nigerian government to promote entrepreneurship, startup growth, and job creation.
Eligible Nigerian youths are expected to apply via the website and upload a business plan draft for review.
A judging panel evaluate the business ideas to determine which ones are the most viable, and those candidates are then coached on how to write a business plan. The panel then decides which business plans have the best chance of succeeding, with the best receiving funds worth $1,200 per year to assist them in actualizing their entrepreneurial dream.
YouWiN pays grants in phases over a period while it tracks the growth of the businesses, assigning personnel to inspect all of them, and ensuring that the funds are not misappropriated.

Originality
Great business ideas must be unique and able to better an already established solution, fix a large-scale problem, or satisfy current market demand successfully.
YouWIN Judges and financiers reject business ideas that are merely spin-off from other successful ideas because they generally have no edge in competing against already successful businesses.
To win a business plan competition, you must have an innovative, viable, scalable business idea.
Profitability
Even the most disruptive innovations must be able to generate revenue at a certain stage. Most investors won’t fund businesses that won’t pay off in the long haul.
Your business plan should illustrate precisely how your business will produce a long-term profit for investors in order to garner excitement in your business during the competition.
Although some investors are attracted to other elements of a business, such as its social consciousness or responsibility, most investors are seeking to increase their holdings by investing in companies that can generate high profits.
Presentation
A business plan challenge isn’t necessarily about having the best idea. If you cannot effectively communicate your ideas during your presentation, then your beautiful business plan and interesting ideas are worthless.
You will be given a limited amount of time (such as 10 minutes) to speak — and cramming all of the essential content into that time frame can be challenging.
Judges seek self-assured entrepreneurs who can express their business well enough to demonstrate the idea’s profitability and viability.
