Fathers’ Day (Día del Padre) is celebrated to honor fathers and male parental figures in Mexico on the third Sunday of June. It is also observed in other countries,
The holiday’s origins can be traced back to the 1920s. Sonora Smart Dude, the granddaughter of an American soldier, therefore decided to pay tribute to him. He was widowed and left to care for only his six children, whom he had nurtured in Washington with care, work, and commitment.
After listening to his father’s lecture on Mother’s Day, Sonora decided to give his father the same respect. As a result, it was recommended that a day be established to honour all of the country’s fathers. He proposed June 5, which happened to be his father’s birthday, as a date for the celebration.
Despite the fact that his plan was unsuccessful, Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States, decided to embrace the notion and proclaimed it a national holiday in 1924. Then, in 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued a presidential order declaring Father’s Day to be celebrated on the third Sunday in June.
We accepted American History in Mexico in 1972, thus we commemorate it on the 3rd Sunday in June, which comes on the 20th this year.
Although the three Sundays in June is the most well-known and widely observed date, some countries observe it at other times of the year. For instance, in Italy and Spain, the commemoration of Saint Joseph, the father of Jesus, is celebrated on March 19 as a distinct date. This day is also commemorated in Morocco, Andorra, Bolivia, Croatia, Honduras, Italy, Liechtenstein, Mozambique, and Portugal.
On February 23, the Day of the Defenders of the Fatherland is commemorated throughout Russia. It takes place on the second Sunday in May in Romania, and on the first Sunday in September in Australia and New Zealand.
Fathers are also recognized on June 21 in Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, and Uganda. On the 23rd, Poland and Nicaragua will compete, while Haiti will compete on the 27th.
In Mexico, it appears that we will be able to honour parents this year more than we did in 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most restaurants in Mexico were closed at the time, and virtually the entire country was in the red at the epidemiology centre.

Is Father’s Day a Public Holiday?
Father’s Day is not a day off from work for most people in the United States. A lot of businesses in Mexico are open on a Sunday, June 19, 2022, so it’s a good idea to check the hours before you go.
Celebrate Fathers’ Day
Like Mothers’ Day and Children’s Day in Mexico, Fathers’ Day is a family-centric observance. Cards, chocolates, artwork, t-shirts, and other presents are given to fathers and father-like role models on this day. Father’s Day community activities, including fun runs, are held in some cities. Most schools have special events, such as pot-luck lunches, hand-made artwork on display, children singing songs, or school plays.
Public Life
Fathers’ Day is an observance and not a federal public holiday in Mexico.
About Fathers’ Day
There are some suggestions that the idea of Father’s Day may stem from pagan sun worship. Some branches of paganism see the Sun as the father of the universe. The June solstice occurs around the same time of year as Father’s Day so some people see a link between the two.
The modern Fathers’ Day origin is believed to have come from the U.S. – some say it was first celebrated in Washington on June 19, 1910, while others believe it was celebrated in West Virginia on July 5, 1908. Regardless, the popularity of Fathers’ Day has spread to countries such as Mexico.
