Prices of Food in Nigeria | 2024 Latest Update

Check to see if the prices of food items in Nigeria are currently increasing or decreasing.

With the constant rise in the inflation rate, Nigerians are currently bracing for challenging times. This is because there has been a steady rise in the cost of foodstuffs such as eggs, rice, and tomatoes.

Besides weakening currency and other economic indices, the problem has been exacerbated by insecurity (which has prevented farmers from going to their farms), flooding (which accounts for bad harvests and crop yields), poor road networks, and a lack of storage facilities.

The government’s failure to tackle these problems has led to this food crisis. Even experts have continued to advocate for a more proactive approach to handling them.

The cost of food items like bread and rice has spiked tremendously as Nigerians continue to purchase them. Poor road infrastructure and storage processing facilities have triggered the rapid increase in the price of perishable food products like milk, chicken, beef, and fish.

In a conversation with supermarket owners and traders, I was told that these prices won’t reduce in the future.

2024 Price of all Food items in Nigeria

Below are the prices of all the basic food items in Nigeria:

Beans

Beans are a popular food item among Nigerians. An obvious fact is that beans are less expensive in the north than in the south. This implies that the part of the country you are residing in will affect how much you will purchase the beans.

However, the cost of beans varies from ₦150,000 to ₦200. There is a steady rise in the price per bag; this differs from what people get in 2024 because of the high inflationary trend and flooding issue.

A paint bucket of iron beans in Nigeria currently (2024) can be priced around ₦7000 to ₦8,500, and your location also affects the cost.  At the same time, a cup of beans can be priced around ₦450 to ₦600. A 50kg bag of beans can measure up to 12 to 14 paints. You will find 26 paint buckets in 100kg bag of beans.

Then, the price of a 50kg bag of beans can hover around ₦80,000 to ₦100,000. A mudu of beans costs around 750 naira while a derica of beans prices 400 to 650.

Both Oloyin or honey beans, and brown beans cost the same as iron beans. There’s really not much difference.
