Peace Corps of Nigeria Ranks

Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) came was formed to maintain peace and social order in Nigeria.

Peace Corps motto “Discipline and Patriotic Services” indicates that the organization was founded in other to foster national creativity, unity, peace, youth development, and re-orientation.

It also has a different salary structure. Peace Corps members are not paid the same salary as Nigeria military forces — airforce, navy, or army.

The peace corp of Nigeria sources most of its funds from government grants, aids from local and international agencies, and donations from private businesses.

As the president is planning to assent to the peace corp bill, which will allow the Peace Corp of Nigeria to become a full-blown paramilitary organization, which will enjoy the Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS).

Other agencies in Nigeria that earn through the consolidated paramilitary structure are the Nigerian customs service, Nigerian Immigration Service, National security and civil defence corps, etc.

The motto of the Peace Corps of Nigeria is Discipline and Patriotic Services.

The Peace Corps of Nigeria ranking structure is quite similar to that of the Nigerian immigration service.

The highest-ranking position is commandant-general. Next in rank is the Deputy Commandant General (DCGs), and then Assistant Commandant-General.

Peace Corps of Nigeria Aims and Objectives

Below are some of the objectives of the Nigeria Peace Corps as found on their website:

a. To enlist, mobilize, train, orientate and provide gainful employment for the youths in order to develop them as supporting agents of social order, by providing a second line of public safety;

b. To serve as a think-tank and engage in educating residents of every community on security and safety measures peculiar to their neighborhood;

c. To uphold bottom-up surveillance through monitoring and observation and to detect, collate, analyze and transmit intelligence data on matters that may likely cause a breach of peace and security within the neighborhood; and transmit same to the appropriate security agency for pre-emptive actions;

d. To engage in Peace Education, Mediation and Conflict Resolution in order to advance the cause of Peace-building, Reconciliation and Conflict Transformation in all communities in Nigeria;

e. To secure educational institutions from intruders and to combat all forms of social decadence/vices, including cultism, examination malpractices, drug abuse and prostitution, with a view to creating a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for learning;

f. To serve as a reservoir and springboard of manpower for volunteerism and involvement in social and community services such as Crowd Control, Tour Guard/Guide, Emergency Relief Services, Rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons, Voters’ Registration, Election Duties, Census, Immunization, Sanitation and First Aid and;

g. To set-up a centre saddled with the responsibility of training and building the capacity of the youths in the areas of Critical Thinking, Creativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition.

Peace Corps of Nigeria ranks

The Peace Corps of Nigeria ranking system is quite different from that of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Airforce. However, the ranking system has a great similarity with that of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Below are the ranks of the Peace Corps of Nigeria.

  • Commandant (CN): This is the most prestigious and respected rank in the Nigerian Peace Corps and is assumed by the highest-ranking officer of the organisation. The Commandant is in charge of all operations and has to position the Peace Corps to attain its mission. The symbol usually includes an NPC Arm and three stars.

 

  • Deputy Commandant (DCN): The Deputy Commandant is the second highest rank next to the Commandant and oversees the organisation in their absence. The role involves reviewing and monitoring the work of other senior officers. They also ensure that operations run seamlessly. The rank insignia is one NPC Arm and one star.

 

  • Assistant Commandant (ACN): The Assistant Commandant steps in when both the Commandant and Deputy Commandant are unavailable. The insignia for this rank includes one NPC Arm, signifying its position below the Deputy Commandant.

 

  • Chief Superintendent (CSN): The Chief Superintendent looks after officers of lower ranks. They make sure others perform their responsibilities effectively. The symbol for this rank is one star and an eagle.

 

  • Superintendent (SN): Superintendents help the Chief Superintendent carry out their duties and have one eagle on their symbol.

 

  • Deputy Superintendent (DSN): The Deputy Superintendent assists the Superintendent and monitors the activities of junior officers. The rank is represented by three stars on the insignia.

 

  • Assistant Superintendent I (ASN I): This is the next rank to the Deputy Superintendent. The symbol consists of two stars.

 

  • Assistant Superintendent II (ASN II): The second highest rank to Assistant Superintendent I (ASN I), symbolised by one star.

 

  • Inspector I, II, III: Inspectors have three levels of ranking. Inspector I is represented by three metal bars, Inspector II is symbolised by two metal bars, and Inspector III consists of one metal bar.

 

  • Corper Assistant I, II, III: Corper Assistants are the lower ranks in the Nigerian Peace Corps. Corper I has three wool bars, Corper II has two wool bars, and Corper III has one wool bar.

 

  • Private Corper: This is the entry-level rank in the Peace Corps. A Private Corper’s insignia is marked by one empty wool bar.

 

Symbols and Uniform

The colour of the Nigerian Peace Corps uniform is khaki, and officers don a blue cap with the Peace Corps insignia. The insignia includes a burning torch, implying a united country, with an open book and olive leaves, which means intellectual growth and love.
