Earlier known as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Centre, the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) was founded and established in 1964 and was funded by the Civil Aviation Department of the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Aviation in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria.
Thus, the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology is located in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria, and it operates as a higher education institute in Nigeria.
History of NCAT Zaria
After the establishment of the school in 1964, it began operations in 1966 with technical support from the United Nations Development Programme and the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
NCAT was to be a training center for Nigerian and African pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, and navigation aid technicians and it subsequently created a flying school, air traffic services school, communications school, and aeronautical electronics and telecommunications school to meet its objectives.
As growth was consistent in all businesses, the college began to offer specialized training courses in instrument landing systems, jet simulation, airline transport, and VHF omnidirectional range in the late 1970s.
The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) has about 26 training aircraft, which are;
- 14 single-engine TAMPICO TB9
- 5 Single TRINIDAD TB20
- 3 twin-engine Beech 58
- 2 BELL 206 Helicopters,
- B737 aircraft for cabin crew training
- 1 TBM 850 aircraft for flight training.
We recall that the college was seeking to become a degree-awarding institution through affiliation with a foreign university in 2010.
Also, as of 2010, about 6,500 students who were offered courses in flying, aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, and aeronautical telecommunications had graduated from the college.
NCAT MISSION STATEMENT
To consistently provide the aviation industry with professionals and other personnel through training and related services for safe transportation under international standards.
