NECO 2026 SSCE Timetable: Dates, Subjects, Download Link

Updated28 July 2026
Reading time5 minutes

The 2026 NECO SSCE (Internal) result is expected by the first week of September 2026, or earlier. The Federal Ministry of Education and NECO announced that target on 16 July 2026, covering 1,378,048 registered candidates. You check the result at results.neco.gov.ng with a result token — note the s in "results", because result.neco.gov.ng no longer resolves.

The exam itself ran from Monday 15 June 2026 to Thursday 23 July 2026. Registration ran through May at ssceinternal.neco.gov.ng. The exam is paper-and-pen — no CBT in 2026 — and covers 76 subjects for SS3 candidates in approved schools. The full subject-by-subject timetable is published on the official NECO portal (neco.gov.ng) about four weeks before the start date. Major papers include Mathematics (1 July), Physics (7 July), Chemistry (14 July) and English Language (15 July), with practicals and electives spread across the period.

Key subject dates in the 2026 NECO timetable

NECO publishes the full timetable as a PDF. Below are the confirmed dates for major 2026 SSCE (Internal) subjects — download the official PDF for every paper’s exact date and session:

Subject Date
Biology 29 June 2026
Mathematics 1 July 2026
Physics 7 July 2026
Chemistry 14 July 2026
English Language 15 July 2026

The detailed paper codes, durations, and exact session times (morning vs afternoon) appear on the official PDF when NECO releases it.

How to download the official NECO 2026 timetable

  1. Visit neco.gov.ng.
  2. Click the Examinations tab in the top menu.
  3. Select SSCE Internal Timetable 2026.
  4. Click the PDF link to download. The file is usually 2026 SSCE INTERNAL TIMETABLE.pdf.
  5. Print and paste a copy in your study area.

If your school has not yet shared a copy, ask your principal or NECO coordinator — schools receive printed copies before students.

What you need on exam day

  • NECO photo card / examination slip.
  • HB pencils (2) — for the OMR objective sheet.
  • Eraser and sharpener.
  • Black or blue pen for theory papers.
  • Mathematical set (compass, protractor, ruler) for Maths and Tech Drawing.
  • Scientific calculator (where allowed — listed on each paper).
  • Practical kit: lab coat, calculator, samples, as listed for Biology/Chemistry/Physics practicals.

Phones, smartwatches, and any internet-enabled device are banned and lead to immediate disqualification.

Tips to score high on NECO 2026

  1. Solve past questions. NECO recycles ~30% of questions across years. Buy the official NECO past-question booklet from your school or any major bookshop.
  2. Master the rubrics. Each paper splits marks between objectives and theory. Learn how each is graded.
  3. Time-box revision. Two-hour focused sessions beat full-day cramming.
  4. Form a small study group. Three to four classmates each teaching one topic per week multiplies coverage.
  5. Eat and sleep well in exam week. Cramming all night before a paper drops marks more than missing the topic.
  6. Read the question paper twice before writing anything. Half of failed answers come from misreading.

When will the 2026 NECO result be released?

NECO is targeting the first week of September 2026, or earlier. The Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and the NECO Registrar, Prof Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, set out that timeline on 16 July 2026, while the exam was still running. The 2026 sitting had 1,378,048 registered candidates, more than 700,000 of them female.

NECO does not publish an exact release date in advance. When the result drops, it appears on the results portal first — before any press conference — so buy your token early rather than on release day, when the portal is busiest.

How to check your 2026 NECO result

Results typically release 6–8 weeks after the last paper, which lines up with that target. To check:

  1. Buy a NECO result token (₦2,000 plus payment charges — about ₦2,250 in total on the official portal, and less from some accredited vendors).
  2. Visit results.neco.gov.ng.
  3. Enter your token, exam type, exam year, and your registration number.
  4. Click Check Result.
