Updated11 August 2026
Reading time4 minutes

As of 11 August 2026, 1 USDT sells for about ₦1,361 on peer-to-peer markets — so $100 in USDT is roughly ₦136,100. One bitcoin costs about ₦87,220,000 ($64,000).

Prices come from CoinGecko’s live market feed and refresh through the day. Rates last refreshed: 8:51am, 11 Aug 2026 (Lagos time).

Why USDT tracks the black-market dollar rate

USDT is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar. When Nigerians buy it with naira, the price they pay is a dollar rate — set by open supply and demand, not by the CBN. So the USDT price (₦1,362 per dollar right now) tracks the parallel market (currently ₦1,415 sell), not the official rate (~₦1,360).

The USDT rate currently sits about ₦3 above the official CBN rate. When official dollar access tightens, that gap widens fast — which is why traders watch the USDT price as a live proxy for the street dollar.

Where Nigerians buy USDT and bitcoin

Binance no longer supports naira. It delisted all NGN pairs in early 2024 after a dispute with the federal government, and its website is blocked in Nigeria. You can still hold crypto there, but you cannot fund it with naira.

What Nigerians use instead:

  • Quidax and Busha — the two SEC-licensed Nigerian exchanges (approved under the SEC’s regulatory incubation programme). Direct naira deposits and withdrawals through your bank.
  • Bybit — P2P marketplace with direct naira bank transfers; the most-used global exchange for naira trades since Binance’s exit.
  • Luno — direct naira deposits; the simplest first-buy option.
  • KuCoin — no direct naira rail; you buy USDT through a P2P seller first, then trade.

P2P safety rules:

  1. Trade only with high-volume, high-rating counterparties.
  2. Never release crypto until the naira shows in your own bank app — payment screenshots can be faked.
  3. Keep the trade inside the platform’s escrow. Anyone asking to “complete it on WhatsApp” is a scammer.

Is crypto legal in Nigeria?

Yes — regulated, not banned:

  • December 2023: the CBN lifted its 2021 ban on banks serving crypto businesses. Banks can now hold accounts for licensed crypto firms (they still can’t trade crypto themselves).
  • June 2024: the SEC began licensing exchanges through its incubation programme — Quidax and Busha received the first approvals.
  • March 2025: the Investment and Securities Act 2025 formally classified digital assets as securities under SEC authority.
  • January 2026: a new SEC circular raised the minimum capital for licensed exchanges to ₦2 billion (compliance deadline June 2027) — the market is being formalised, not squeezed out.

Nigeria remains one of the world’s biggest crypto markets: 6th on Chainalysis’s 2025 Global Adoption Index, first in Sub-Saharan Africa, with over $92 billion in crypto value received in the year to June 2025.

How to convert USDT to naira

  1. Open the P2P (or instant-sell) section of your exchange and pick USDT to NGN.
  2. Choose a buyer by price and completed-trade history — or use a licensed exchange’s instant-sell and skip the counterparty risk.
  3. Confirm the naira in your bank app before releasing the USDT from escrow.

The rate you accept should sit close to the USDT price at the top of this page. A buyer offering far above market is bait.

Risks to keep in mind

  • Volatility: BTC and ETH can move 5–10% in a day. USDT holds its dollar peg, but its naira value still moves with the exchange rate.
  • Platform risk: unlicensed platforms can freeze withdrawals or vanish. Prefer SEC-licensed or top-tier global exchanges.
  • Scams: “guaranteed profit” trading groups and fake payment screenshots are the two most common traps.

FAQs

What is the USDT to naira rate today?

About ₦1,361 per USDT (live CoinGecko price, 11 August 2026). USDT tracks the parallel-market dollar rate, not the official CBN rate.

How much is 1 bitcoin in naira?

About ₦87,220,000 (roughly $64,000) as of 11 August 2026. The naira price moves with both the global BTC price and the naira-dollar rate.

Why is the USDT rate higher than the official CBN dollar rate?

USDT trades on open peer-to-peer markets, so its naira price reflects what buyers actually pay for dollars — the parallel-market rate. The CBN official rate only applies to documented transactions through banks.

Is cryptocurrency legal in Nigeria?

Yes. The CBN lifted its banking ban in December 2023, and the SEC now licenses exchanges. Crypto is regulated, not banned — but only licensed platforms may legally operate as exchanges.

Where do Nigerians buy USDT?

Mostly on P2P marketplaces of major exchanges and on SEC-licensed Nigerian platforms (Quidax, Busha). Stick to licensed or well-established platforms and never trade with unverified P2P counterparties.
