What is the current NYSC monthly allowance?
The Federal Government pays every serving corps member ₦77,000 a month. This is the “allawee” credited to your bank account by the National Youth Service Corps. The figure was increased from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 in March 2025 under the National Minimum Wage Act 2024, and remains the rate today.
Payment normally lands between the 25th and 30th of each month. The first credit after orientation camp often arrives later than this because new batches are processed in a queue.
Your PPA may add its own stipend on top of the federal allowance. A medical doctor posted to a teaching hospital, or an engineer posted to an oil and gas firm, can earn far more than a corps member teaching in a rural school. Ask your PPA about staff welfare on resumption.
Do state governments pay extra NYSC allowance?
Many do, but not all. State top-ups are paid in addition to the ₦77,000 federal allowance and change without notice. The figures below are reported by corps-member aggregators and may shift between batches; confirm the current amount at your State Secretariat or with your LGI on arrival. If a state is missing from this list, no state-level top-up is reported.
Akwa Ibom
₦5,000 monthly top-up.
Lagos
Lagos pays a state top-up that varies by Place of Primary Assignment — roughly ₦5,000 to ₦20,000 a month (ministry and parastatal postings at the higher end, local-government postings lower; corps members at private organisations usually get nothing). The widely shared ₦40,000–₦53,000 figures are combined federal-plus-state totals, not the Lagos top-up alone. Register at the Alausa Secretariat (Ministry of Special Duties) right after collecting your PPA letter and confirm the current amount there.
Sokoto
₦3,750 monthly, paid as a one-time lump sum of ₦45,000 at the end of service.
Enugu
₦1,000/month for corps members in Enugu North, Enugu East and Enugu South; ₦3,500/month for those serving in rural LGAs.
Oyo
₦4,000 monthly top-up.
Osun
₦5,000 monthly top-up.
Kano
₦10,000 monthly top-up.
Borno
₦1,000 monthly top-up.
Niger
Previously paid ₦6,000 monthly. Recent payments have been irregular — confirm with the State Secretariat on arrival.
Yobe
₦2,500 monthly top-up.
Bayelsa
Tiered and paid quarterly: about ₦6,000 for urban postings, ₦8,000 for rural, and ₦10,000 for riverine LGAs. Amounts may have been revised; check on arrival.

₦5,000 monthly top-up.
Ogun

For corps members posted to state schools, Governor Agbu Kefas approved a package totalling ₦395,000 across the service year:
- ₦50,000 medical allowance
- ₦75,000 housing allowance (₦25,000 per term × 3 terms)
- ₦120,000 monthly stipend (₦10,000 × 12 months)
- ₦50,000 one-off payment
- ₦100,000 misc.
Kaduna
₦3,000 monthly top-up.
Jigawa
₦5,000 monthly top-up.
Nasarawa
₦5,000 monthly top-up.
Ebonyi
₦10,000 monthly top-up.
Plateau
₦2,500 monthly top-up for corps members in selected LGAs.
Rivers
Reported figures sit between ₦10,000 and ₦20,000 a month, paid selectively to corps members at state-government PPAs. Payments have been on and off over the years — confirm at the Port Harcourt Secretariat before you count on it.
Anambra
₦8,500 monthly top-up.
Katsina
₦4,000 monthly top-up.
Kebbi
₦2,000/month, paid only to corps members assigned to State Government-owned establishments.
Adamawa
₦20,000 one-off payment to corps members posted there at Passing-Out Parade (POP).

When does NYSC pay the monthly allowance?
The federal ₦77,000 is paid between the 25th and 30th of each month. Two things shift this window:
- First credit after camp. New batches are processed in a queue, so your first allowance can land a few weeks after the standard window.
- Bank or biometric flags. A failed CDS biometric or a mismatched BVN can push your payment to the next batch run.
State top-ups follow each state’s own calendar. Bayelsa, for instance, pays its top-up quarterly rather than monthly.
Which banks does NYSC pay through?
The federal allowance is paid into accounts opened with any of these banks:

Open the account during orientation camp using the NYSC call-up number on your green card. Any account opened outside this process will not be linked to your payroll record.
Why is my NYSC allowance delayed?
- Account verification issues. Errors in the bank details you submitted during registration delay payment.
- PPA clearance. Your Place of Primary Assignment hasn’t submitted your monthly attendance.
- Biometric issues. You missed the monthly CDS biometric verification.
- Bank network. Temporary technical problems at the bank end.
- Batch processing. New batches see first-payment delays after orientation camp.
What to do if your NYSC allowance is delayed
Work the list in order. Most delays clear at step 1 or 2.
- Log in to the NYSC dashboard at portal.nysc.org.ng and check your bank account number and BVN for typos. Wrong digits are the most common cause of a missed payment.
- Visit your bank. Confirm the account is active, the BVN is linked, and there is no restriction or daily-limit block.
- Talk to your LGI (Local Government Inspector). They can confirm your CDS attendance and biometric status, and flag your record at the State Secretariat.
- Escalate to the State Secretariat if the LGI cannot resolve it. The Director of Corps Welfare can push the file to the DG’s office in Abuja.
- Track official channels. NYSC announces nationwide payment delays on its verified X (Twitter) and Facebook pages before resolving them.
Who runs the NYSC payroll?
The scheme is led by Brig Gen Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, the 23rd Director-General of NYSC. He assumed duty on 6 March 2025 and marked his first year in office in March 2026. Payroll is processed centrally through the NYSC headquarters in Abuja and credited via the approved banks listed above.
