The live table above shows what fuel costs at Nigerian depots right now — the price marketers pay to load petrol (PMS), diesel (AGO), cooking gas (LPG) and jet fuel (ATK) before it gets to your filling station. It updates automatically every hour, so the numbers you see are today’s, not last month’s.
Depot price vs pump price — what you actually pay
The depot (loading) price is the wholesale price at the tank farm. Your filling station adds transport to its location, its own margin, and sometimes state levies before setting the pump price. That is why the pump price is always higher than the depot price, and why a station in Maiduguri charges more than one beside a Lagos depot. How much higher varies by state and marketer — there is no single national pump price since deregulation.
Watch the depot trend instead of arguing with one station: when depot prices fall for a week, pump prices usually follow within days. When depots rise, stations react the same day.
Pump prices this week (checked 12 September 2026)
The depot table above is what marketers pay. This is what you pay at the pump, as of the second week of September 2026:
- NNPC stations: Lagos ₦1,299 a litre, Abuja ₦1,335, Ogun ₦1,305, Abia ₦1,295; the cheapest NNPC price reported was Enugu at ₦1,235 and the dearest Yobe at ₦1,395 (Legit.ng, 1 September 2026).
- National average: ₦1,267.75 a litre on 7 September 2026 (GlobalPetrolPrices, updated weekly).
- What is coming: Dangote raised its petrol gantry price 6.7% to ₦1,350 a litre on 12 September 2026, its fourth increase since 20 August (₦1,165 → ₦1,185 → ₦1,200 → ₦1,265 → ₦1,350), blaming higher crude costs (Vanguard, 12 September 2026). Depots and NNPC pumps have followed each of the earlier moves within days, so expect pump prices near ₦1,380–₦1,420 in Lagos and Abuja by mid-September unless crude eases.
Buying tip: if your tank is low, fill up before the pumps catch up with the gantry price. If you are half-full, the difference is a few hundred naira and not worth queuing for.
Official pump prices by state (NBS)
The National Bureau of Statistics surveys over 10,000 filling-station outlets across all 774 LGAs every month — it is the only official record of what stations actually charge. The latest published report is May 2026: national average pump price ₦1,596.25 per litre, up 4.1% from April (₦1,532.93) and 55.3% from a year earlier.

Most expensive states: Edo (₦1,722.91), Bauchi (₦1,715.47), Benue (₦1,698.57). Cheapest: Adamawa (₦1,469.83), Katsina (₦1,470.63), Sokoto (₦1,489.33). Diesel averaged about ₦3,277 per litre at the pump in the same survey, and kerosene ₦2,971.94 — the diesel figure sits far above today’s depot prices in the live table, so treat the May survey as history, not a guide to what you will pay this week.
Two things to note when reading this table against the live depot prices above. First, NBS publishes with a lag of about six weeks, so the survey month is always behind today. Second, the May survey average sits well above current depot prices — depot prices have fallen since May, and pump prices in remote LGAs (which the survey includes) run far above city stations near depots. Who sets fuel prices in Nigeria?
Nobody fixes them anymore. Since subsidy removal in 2023, petrol pricing is deregulated — depots and marketers price off landing cost (crude price, refining, and the naira exchange rate) and competition from the Dangote refinery. Dangote’s gantry (ex-refinery) price is the benchmark most depots track; it has risen four times since 20 August 2026, from ₦1,165 to ₦1,350 a litre by 12 September 2026 (see the pump-price section above). The dollar-to-naira rate feeds directly into landing cost, which is why fuel and the exchange rate rise together.
Why is diesel more expensive than petrol?
Diesel (AGO) was deregulated years before petrol and is bought mostly by businesses — factories, trucks, generators — that pass the cost on. It also tracks global gasoil prices, which run above gasoline. If you run a generator, the diesel table above is the number that decides your monthly power bill.

FAQ
Is fuel price the same in every state? No. Depot prices differ by region (Lagos depots are usually cheapest), and transport adds more the further a station is from a depot. Northern and far-eastern states pay the most.
What is the difference between PMS, AGO, LPG and ATK? PMS is petrol for cars and small generators. AGO is diesel for trucks and big generators. LPG is cooking gas. ATK is aviation jet fuel — it matters to you through flight ticket prices.
How often do these prices change? Depots reprice daily, sometimes twice a day when crude or the naira moves sharply. This page checks for new prices every hour.
