For a prepaid line with no fees and no age limit, the practical cheapest on each network is Glo Flat Tariff Plan 1 at ₦7.20, T2 Sabi Talk at ₦7.20, Airtel Smart Talk at ₦15.00 and MTN Pulse at ₦13.80.
MTN is the most expensive of the four for voice by approved tariff — 67% above Glo at the cheapest end. It is also the network with the widest coverage, which is what most people are actually paying for.
Browsing Without a Bundle Is the Real Trap
Every plan has a pay-as-you-go data rate that applies when you have no active bundle. It is the most expensive way to use a phone in Nigeria, by a distance.

T2’s figure is not a typo. A single gigabyte browsed off-bundle on T2 costs ₦52,429 at the approved rate. T2’s own site quotes ₦70/MB on the bonus account, which is worse still. If you carry a T2 line, never let the bundle lapse.
One plan breaks the pattern in the other direction: Glo Super Talk charges ₦1.50/MB, half of any other plan’s pay-as-you-go rate. It carries a ₦15 daily access fee, so it only makes sense if you use the line most days.
Access Fees and Rentals Nobody Mentions
- MTN X — ₦10 a day. Over a month that is ₦300 before you make a call, which turns a ₦15/min plan into the dearest option for a light user.
- Glo Super Talk — ₦15 a day, about ₦450 a month.
- Airtel Smart Talk Postpaid — ₦150 a month. Small, and the ₦9/min rate usually pays for it.
- T2 Morelife Complete — ₦7.68 access. Skip it and the rate jumps to ₦36.86 a minute, nearly four times the plan rate.
- Glo corporate plans — a ₦500 to ₦10,000 monthly rental. Miss it and every call bills at ₦18 a minute.
The calculator adds all of these in, which is why its ranking sometimes differs from the headline rate.
Where These Rates Come From
Nigerian operators are required to file their tariffs with the Nigerian Communications Commission, and the NCC publishes the approved schedules. The figures on this page come from the filing dated 17 July 2026.
We checked them against each operator’s own website on 22 September 2026:
- MTN publishes MTN X at 25k/sec with a ₦10 daily access fee and ₦3.07/MB pay-as-you-go — matching the filing exactly.
- T2 publishes Konfam at 31.74k/sec, or ₦19.04 a minute — matching the filing exactly.
- Glo publishes no call rates at all. Its tariff-plans page lists one plan name and no figures.
- Airtel publishes no call rates in any page a browser or a search engine can read.
So for half the market the NCC filing is not just the best source — it is the only one. Where an operator does publish, the filing matched it to the kobo.

Changing tariff plan does not change your number, your SIM or your balance, and it does not cancel an active data bundle.

Almost always pay-as-you-go data. With no active bundle your browsing bills at ₦3 to ₦51 per megabyte depending on the network, which empties a recharge in minutes. Buy a data bundle before you browse.
Are these rates the same as what I am charged?
They are the rates the operator filed with the NCC and is approved to charge. Promotions, bonus airtime and corporate agreements bill differently — bonus credit in particular is charged at a higher rate than the main account on most plans.
