Kids’ clothing sizes are inconsistent. A 6T at one brand fits like an 8 at another. Age-based labels don’t account for tall, slim, or husky builds. The fix is to measure the child once, then match those numbers to a chart.
This guide gives you US, UK, and EU size charts for boys and girls from newborn through teen (EU 50 to 176), plus slim, husky, plus, and pants charts, Asian 100 to 160 sizes, and a converter that does the math for you.
Find the size from your child's height
Type the height and we give the EU, Asian, US, and UK size instantly. Height beats age — it is how EU and Asian sizes are defined.
Enter a height between 40 and 190 cm (16 to 75 in) and the sizes appear here.
EU and Asian sizes are the tallest height the garment fits, so we round up to the next size. Nothing you type is sent anywhere — the math runs in your browser.
How to measure a child for clothing
Use a soft tape measure. Take measurements over light clothing or none at all.
- Chest: Wrap around the fullest part with arms at the sides.
- Waist: Measure the narrowest part of the torso, usually just above the belly button.
- Hips: Measure the fullest part around the seat.
- Inseam: Measure from the crotch to the ankle along the inside of the leg.
- Height: Stand the child barefoot against a wall and measure floor to top of head.
For toddler and infant sizes, height and weight matter more than chest or waist. For older kids, all five measurements help.

Asian sizes 100 to 160 explained
Sizes that run in steps of 10 — 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160 — are Japanese and other Asian height sizing (the JIS standard). Like EU sizes, the number is the child’s height in centimeters, but the garment is cut for a child within about 5 cm either side of it. If your child is 122 cm tall, buy size 120.

Tips for getting the fit right
- Measure every 3–4 months for kids under 5. Growth spurts are fast and a 2T can become 3T in 60 days.
- Size up, not down. Kids grow into clothes; loose is fine, tight gets donated next month.
- Note brands that fit well. Carter’s runs a touch large. H&M and Zara run small. Old Navy and Gap track close to the standard chart.
- Check the size guide on the brand’s product page. Most retailers publish their own measurements that may differ from the standard.
- Sizing your own clothing line? Cut to the standard charts above, then grade slim and husky variants from them. Our guide to starting a ready-to-wear clothing line covers production and pricing.
- For shoes, separate chart applies — kids’ shoe sizing uses foot length in inches/centimeters, not clothing size. See our kids shoe size chart.
FAQs
What’s the difference between 24M and 2T?
24M (24 months) is for babies still in diapers — cut roomier in the seat and shorter in the leg. 2T is for toddlers out of diapers, with a slimmer fit and longer legs.
Why does the same size fit differently across brands?
There is no enforced US standard for kids’ clothing sizing. Each brand sets its own block patterns, and many cut for their target customer’s build (Carter’s = average, Cat & Jack = slightly larger, H&M = slightly smaller).
How do I convert US 8 to EU?
A US size 8 generally maps to EU 122–128, based on a child of about 48–50 inches tall.
Is the “T” the same as “M”?
No. T = toddler (2T, 3T, 4T, 5T). M = months (3M, 6M, 12M, 18M, 24M). T sizes assume the child is potty-trained.
What size for a tall, slim kid?
Use the slim chart. Many brands carry slim cuts in pants — match the chest size to the chart, then check the inseam.
What size for a husky kid?
Use the husky/plus chart. Match waist and chest first; height follows.
What is 4T in UK size?
UK “3-4 years” (EU 98 to 104 cm). UK sizes run by age, and a 4T fits a child about to turn 4.
What size is 130 in US?
US size 8. A 130 is Asian height sizing for a child 125 to 135 cm tall, about age 7 to 9.
What size does a 10-year-old wear?
Typically US 10 to 12, EU 140 to 146, UK “9-10” or “10-11 years” — but height decides, not age. Measure and match the chart.
