Cost of Clearing Cars in Nigeria (2021 Recent Update)

As we all know, Nigeria still does not manufacture cars (except for a few cases where we hear of cars being assembled in Nigeria) and then there’s Innoson who cannot satisfy Nigerian’s thirst for cars.

This means that 99% of cars we use in the country are all made abroad and imported into the country and such, we’ll like to look into the latest cost of clearing cars in Nigeria today. The cost you’ll see here is for imported cars.

Cost of Clearing Cars in Nigeria

Clearing imported cars from the Nigerian at ports and borders does not come cheap. You must pay the clearance fee to the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) before you can be allowed to bring your car into the country.

As of last year, the system by which the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) charges for clearing cars changed. Instead of charging according to the year of manufacture, they now charge according to the cost of the car not the year of manufacture.

How Clearing Costs Are Calculated

The charge is 35% of whatever you paid for the vehicle and a levy of 35% making 70% of what you paid for the car. So assuming you bought a car for N2 million, you will spend N1.4 million to clear the car. You can easily do the math yourself.

These prices can be brought down if you can find a good clearing agent. Some agents gave us the estimated cost of clearing some cars manufactured in the following year:
