JAMB CAP System FAQ

JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is the portal where you check whether you’ve been offered admission, accept or reject the offer, and approve or refuse a course transfer if your school moves you. CAPS confuses thousands of candidates every year — the messages it shows (“Not Admitted”, “Recommended”, “In Progress”) often don’t mean what they sound like.

This is a plain-English FAQ for the 2026/2027 admission cycle. Every answer here is about the live JAMB CAPS portal at portal.jamb.gov.ng/efacility.

How to Check Your Admission Status on CAPS

1. Go to portal.jamb.gov.ng/efacility.
2. Log in with the email and password you used for UTME registration.
3. On the left-hand menu, click Check Admission Status.
4. Confirm your year of UTME. Click Access My CAPS.
5. The page tells you whether admission is in progress, recommended, offered, or not given.

On a phone, switch Chrome to Desktop site (three dots menu → Desktop site). The mobile view often hides the CAPS panel.

What Each CAPS Status Message Means

CAPS Status	What it Means
Admission in Progress	Your school is still processing applications. Not a rejection — keep checking.
Pending	Same as above. Application hasn’t been finalised yet.
Not Admitted	Your school has not yet sent your name to JAMB. Could change. Re-check after the school’s official admission list is released.
Recommended	Your school recommends you for admission. JAMB hasn’t approved it yet. Don’t accept until status flips to “Admitted”.
Admitted / Approved	You have been offered admission. Accept or reject within the deadline.
Programme Transfer	Your first-choice school has moved you to a different course. Accept or reject the new course.

How to Accept or Reject an Admission Offer

You have two ways to respond once your status reads “Admitted”:

Option 1 — SMS

Send ACCEPT or REJECT to 55019 or 66019. Use the same phone number you used for UTME registration. Wait a few minutes, then refresh CAPS to confirm.

Option 2 — CAPS Portal

1. Log in to your e-facility account.
2. Open Access My CAPS.
3. Click the Admission Status tab.
4. Click Accept Admission or Reject Admission.
5. You’ll see Record(s) successfully saved in green when it’s done.

JAMB gives you up to 4 weeks to act. If you miss the deadline, your offer can be withdrawn.

Accept vs Reject — Which One?

• Accept closes the door. Other institutions stop considering you. You can now print your JAMB admission letter.
• Reject keeps the door open. Other schools can still offer you admission. Use this only if you’re certain a better offer is coming.

Once you accept, print your JAMB Admission Letter from the same portal. You’ll need it for school clearance, hostel allocation, and post-UTME verification.

JAMB CAPS FAQ

My school admitted me but CAPS still says “Not Admitted”. What do I do?

Wait. Schools send admission lists to JAMB in batches; CAPS lags behind by hours or days. Re-check your status every 2–3 days. If it’s been more than two weeks since the school’s official list, contact your school’s admission office or JAMB support.

My course and institution columns are blank on CAPS. Why?

Try a different browser first (Chrome desktop view recommended). If still blank, your registration record may not have synced — your status will fill in once your school sends your name to JAMB. Keep checking.

I clicked “Accept” by mistake while my status said “Not Admitted”. Did I just damage my admission?

No. The Accept button has no effect when there’s nothing to accept. CAPS only registers an Accept when you’re actually admitted.

CAPS says “Recommended”. Should I accept?

Don’t accept yet. “Recommended” means your school proposed you to JAMB but JAMB hasn’t approved it. Wait until the status changes to “Admitted” or “Approved”. Accepting at the Recommended stage can lock you out of better offers if JAMB doesn’t confirm.

What is the JAMB CAPS Transfer Approval page?

It’s where JAMB tells you your first-choice school wants to move you to a different course (e.g., from Medicine to Nursing). To check it: e-facility → Check Admission Status → Access My CAPS → Transfer Approval. If you’ve been transferred, you’ll see the new course. Tick the action box and click Accept or Reject.

I have 72 hours to accept and the deadline is today. Can I accept tomorrow?

The current JAMB rule is up to 4 weeks (28 days), not 72 hours. If your CAPS shows a shorter window, accept within that window — admission can be terminated after expiry. Don’t gamble on it.

CAPS says “You are not eligible for this service”. What’s wrong?

Usually a year-of-exam mismatch. Click back, change the year to your UTME year (2026 if you sat the 2026 paper), and re-enter CAPS. The portal sometimes defaults to the previous cycle.

The CAPS page only loads halfway and freezes. What now?

Switch browsers. Chrome and Edge in desktop mode work best. Clear cookies, disable VPN, and try again on a stable connection. JAMB servers also slow down during peak admission windows — try off-peak (early morning).

My CAPS says “Refresh from CAPS”. What does that mean?

A sync option. If your status looks correct, ignore it. Use it only when you suspect your status is stale — for example, when you know a list was released but CAPS still shows old info.

Do I need to log in to check CAPS?

Yes. CAPS is inside your e-facility account. You log in with the same email and password you used for UTME registration. There is no public guest mode.

Where do I get my JAMB admission letter after accepting?

Same portal. Once you accept, the Print Admission Letter option appears under Admission Status. Save the PDF and print copies — you’ll need it at school registration.
