The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is recruiting in Nigeria. The current cycle lists nine vacancies across General Duties, Accounts, ICT, Audit, and Secretarial roles, with applications closing Monday, 25 May 2026. You must be no older than 40, hold the qualification listed for the role, and have five O’Level credits including English and Maths. The only official portal is recruitment.waec.com.ng. Application is free — WAEC does not collect fees through agents or third-party sites.
Is WAEC recruitment open now?
Yes. WAEC opened the 2026 cycle through recruitment.waec.com.ng, with a closing date of 25 May 2026. WAEC recruits irregularly — sometimes once a year, sometimes after longer gaps — so apply during an active advert and treat any portal that asks for payment as a scam.
If the window closes before you read this, bookmark the portal and waeconline.org.ng. New adverts post there first.
What jobs is WAEC hiring for?
The current advert lists nine roles across five departments:
- Examinations Officer (General Duties)
- Examinations Officer (Accounts)
- Examinations Officer (Information and Communication Technology)
- Confidential Secretary II
- Assistant Examinations Officer III (General Duties)
- Assistant Examinations Officer III (Accounts)
- Assistant Examinations Officer III (Information and Communication Technology)
- Assistant Examinations Officer III (Audit)
- Confidential Secretary V
Successful applicants help develop and moderate tests in their area and run examination activities for the Council.
Who can apply?
Requirements split by role group, but a few apply across the board:
- Age: not more than 40 at the closing date.
- O’Level: five credits in WASSCE, NECO, or GCE — including English Language and Mathematics — at one sitting, or six credits across no more than two sittings.
- Computer literacy is compulsory for every position.
- Higher qualification matches the role: B.Sc./HND for Examinations Officer and Confidential Secretary II; ND or NCE for Assistant Examinations Officer III; OND for Confidential Secretary V.
- Valid ID — NIN, driver’s licence, voter’s card, or international passport.
You also need clear, properly sized scans:
- Passport photo: 275 × 314 pixels, 7–30 KB.
- Certificates: 400–1200 pixels wide, 600–1500 pixels tall, 50–120 KB.
How do you apply for WAEC recruitment?
- Go to recruitment.waec.com.ng. This is the only valid portal.
- Create an account with an active email address and phone number.
- Pick the position that matches your qualifications.
- Fill in your bio-data, education history, and work experience. Double-check spellings — you cannot edit after submission.
- Upload your passport photo and certificate scans at the required sizes.
- Submit before the deadline. Save or print your application reference number.
For queries, email recruitment@waec.org.ng.
What stages follow the application?
- Shortlisting — WAEC screens applications against the published criteria.
- Aptitude test — shortlisted candidates sit a computer-based test. You get a date and venue by email.
- Interview — a panel assessment for those who pass the aptitude test.
- Offer and resumption — successful candidates get offer letters with resumption instructions.
Only shortlisted applicants are contacted. If you do not hear back within a few weeks of the closing date, you were not selected for that cycle.
How do you avoid WAEC recruitment scams?
- WAEC never charges for applications, shortlisting, or interviews. Any request for money is a scam.
- The only official application URLs are recruitment.waec.com.ng, waeconline.org.ng, and waecnigeria.org.
- Ignore WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, and “agents” claiming to fast-track applications.
- WAEC contacts shortlisted candidates by the email you registered with — never via random calls from personal numbers.
What if recruitment is closed?
Between cycles, the portal stays online but rejects new applications. Monitor:
- recruitment.waec.com.ng for the next advert.
- waeconline.org.ng news section.
- WAEC Nigeria’s official social channels.
Prepare your documents now — scanned certificates, passport photo at spec, NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and a clean CV — so you can submit on day one when the next window opens.
