About Nigeria’s Got Talent

Nigeria’s Got Talent is a Nigerian reality talent show. Sponsored by telecommunication company Airtel, it was first aired in 2012 on AIT AND NTA television stations. Nigeria’s Got Talent is part of the Got Talent franchise.

How Nigeria’s Got Talent Works

To become a contestant on the show, you first need to get past the auditions, which take place in front of the judges (Kate Henshaw, Yibo Koko and Dan Foster) and a live audience. The auditions are held in different cities in Nigeria.
As the contestant performs, each judge may show their disapproval by pressing a buzzer that lights a red ‘X’ near above the stage. If all three buzzers are pressed, the act ends immediately.

To advance to the second round, auditionees must receive approval from at least two judges; otherwise, the competition ends for them.

After the auditions, the judges have to cut successful acts down to fifty, eliminating the contestants with the poorest performances. The remaining contestants progress to the next round. Throughout the competition, the judges give their impression of each act’s performance.

The remaining acts from across the country perform in the live semi-finals, with the two most popular acts from each semi-final winning a position in the final. The judges may still end a performance early with all three ‘X’s’ buzzed.

After the acts have been performed, phone lines open, and the voting process begins, after which the votes are counted, and the act with the highest number of public votes is automatically placed in the final. The judges then choose between the second and third most popular acts, with the most votes automatically gaining a place in the final. The winner of Nigeria’s Got talent is again chosen by the public vote.

Nigeria Got Talent Tips

Pick Your Act Wisely

Choosing a wonderful act is the first hurdle. Your choice may be clear-cut: if you take singing, guitar, or dance lessons and already have a piece prepared for your recital, you’re set for a talent show performance.

Of course, you can sing, dance, or play an instrument even if you’ve never taken lessons. But these are not the only talents available. Perhaps your best qualities are acrobatics, taekwondo, telekinesis, or yo-yo tricks.

A group of girls might also form a dance crew and perform a rhythmic gymnastics regimen, or if you’re an ambitious young stand-up comic, you can write and conduct a classic stand-up act.

Rehearse

This one should go without saying, but you’d be amazed how many people jump up on stage and try to improvise. Even if your performance goes off without a hitch, it will be 100 percent better if you rehearse.

Practice as much as you can. If you think you’ve had enough practice, go ahead and do some more. Videotape a few of your rehearsals with a partner or your parents. After that, you can go over the videos to see what’s good and what isn’t. Improve your act using the videos as a guide, then videotape and review them again to ensure the improvements are meaningful.

The shorter, the sweeter

Don’t stay too long in front of the audience. Even the best dancer or a hilarious comedy might become boring after a while if the performance has outstayed its welcome. Cut the tune you’re singing, performing, or dancing to if it’s too lengthy. Pick your favorite verses and discard the others.

  5. One amendment to the Navy audition procedure that is not on their website. However in an e-mail to me the Audition Supervisor said that "after they do open call auditions in Millington, TN and they still cannot find a qualified person, then they will do local auditions by appointment. The question is, do you really want to take the chance of them auditioning say 25 sax players for say maybe 4 spots and then making an appointment at your local Navy Band or would you rather be at the audition in Millington, TN just knowing that you are going to Wow them?
