A Facebook poke is a simple, playful gesture that allows you to send a virtual notification to a friend. It’s like giving them a friendly nudge or a digital wave. Despite its name, a poke doesn’t carry any deep meaning—it’s more of a lighthearted interaction.
How to Poke Someone on Facebook:
- Using the Website:
- Go to Facebook and log in to your account.
- In the search bar at the top, type “Pokes” and hit Enter.
- Choose the “Pokes” option from the search results.
- You’ll land on the “Pokes” page.
- To poke someone:
- Find the person’s name on this page.
- Next to their name, click “Poke.”
- If someone has already poked you, you can poke them back by clicking “Poke Back.”
- Using the Facebook App:
- Open the Facebook app on your mobile device.
- Search for “Pokes” within the app.
- Tap on the “Pokes” page.
- To poke someone:
- Find the person’s name.
- Tap “Poke” next to their name.
Remember:
- You can only poke people who are your friends on Facebook.

How to Send a Facebook Poke
Here is how to poke someone on Facebook.
To poke someone:
- Go to their profile page.
- Find the “…” icon located on the cover photo of their profile.
- Select the “poke” option.
- A popup window will appear, confirming that you have poked the person.
How to Tell If You Have Been Poked
If someone pokes you, you’ll receive a notification under the “world” icon for notifications on the blue menu bar on the right. If you click on that notice, you’ll be taken to a screen where you can choose a “Poke Back” option inside of a blue button with a hand icon. You will also see below a list of suggested people to poke.
You can also delete the poke by clicking on the grey “x” to the right of the Poke Back button.
One thing to keep in mind is that you cannot poke the same person twice unless the individual has returned or removed your first poke.
How to Stop a Facebook User from Poking You
If you want to stop someone from poking you, you can block them by clicking on the question mark icon on the top right of the blue menu bar.
