13 Funny Phone Numbers to Call When You’re Bored

posted on October 25, 2025

Every number on this list was re-checked in August 2026 and still answers. They are all US numbers — normal call rates apply, and none of them charge you extra. Start with Santa’s year-round hotline at (951) 262-3062 or get Rickrolled at (248) 434-5508.

Prank hotlines retire quietly all the time, so an old list is worse than no list. Numbers that used to be everywhere — the original Rejection Hotline, the old Hogwarts line — are dead now. Here is what still works, and what to say goodbye to.

13 Funny Numbers That Still Work

Number What happens when you call
(951) 262-3062 Santa’s Workshop — Santa’s personal hotline, all year round
(248) 434-5508 You get Rickrolled
(914) 737-9938 A test call that goes off the rails
(707) 873-7862 PepToc — kids give you a pep talk
(929) 556-2746 Super Mario Bros. Plumbing
(626) 831-9333 Grover from Sesame Street shares self-care tips
(505) 503-4455 Better Call Saul’s law office
(719) 266-2837 Callin’ Oates — Hall & Oates on demand
(605) 477-3018 The Rejection Hotline (new number)
(781) 452-4077 Hogwarts Hotline
(631) 960-7169 Your friendship has been outsourced
(805) 457-4992 Surfer Boy Pizza from Stranger Things
(272) 867-5309 Jenny’s number, from the song

1. Santa’s Workshop — (951) 262-3062

“This is Santa Claus, and you have reached my personal hotline!” It answers in July as happily as in December, and kids can leave a message with their wish list.

2. Get Rickrolled — (248) 434-5508

The internet’s oldest bait, now in phone form. Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” plays the moment the line picks up. Send it to a friend as “the number you asked for.”

3. Test Call Gone Wrong — (914) 737-9938

It starts as a boring line-test announcement, then the voice gives up: “I don’t know what it’s supposed to say. I’m not really that concerned.” Slightly unsettling, very funny.

4. PepToc Pep Talk — (707) 873-7862

Schoolkids from Healdsburg, California recorded encouragement lines for anyone having a rough day. Press through the menu and a child tells you to keep going. Also available in Spanish.

5. Super Mario Bros. Plumbing — (929) 556-2746

The plumbing-company hotline from the Super Mario movie. You get the Mario universe answering-machine treatment, updated as new films roll out.

6. Grover’s Self-Care Line — (626) 831-9333

Sesame Street’s Grover shares breathing and self-care tips over cheerful music. Made for kids, works on stressed adults too.

7. Better Call Saul — (505) 503-4455

Saul Goodman’s office, straight from the show. “Did you know you have rights? The Constitution says you do.” A must-dial for Breaking Bad fans.

8. Callin’ Oates — (719) 266-2837

The longest-running joke line on this list. A menu offers four Hall & Oates classics — “One on One,” “Rich Girl,” “Maneater,” and “Private Eyes” — and plays your pick.

9. The Rejection Hotline — (605) 477-3018

The classic just moved house. Give this number instead of your real one, and the caller hears: “the person who gave you this number did NOT want you to have their real number.”

10. Hogwarts Hotline — (781) 452-4077

Theme music, a crisp British voice, and instructions for boarding the Hogwarts Express. It even flags you as a possible Muggle.

11. Outsource Friendship — (631) 960-7169

“Your lovely friend has decided to outsource your friendship.” A polite way to tell someone you are officially too busy for them.

12. Surfer Boy Pizza — (805) 457-4992

The pizza line from Stranger Things season 4. It plays along as a real pizzeria just long enough to make you doubt yourself.

13. Jenny — (272) 867-5309

867-5309 from the Tommy Tutone song, kept alive with a working area code. Older variants of this number have gone dark; this one answers.

Numbers That No Longer Work

If you saved these from older lists, delete them — they are disconnected or reassigned: the original Rejection Hotline (605) 475-6968 and its sister lines like the Divorce Hotline (605) 475-6960, the old Hogwarts number (605) 475-6961, the old Santa line (603) 413-4124, the old Better Call Saul billboard number (505) 842-5662, and Jenny at (201) 867-5309. Calling a reassigned number rings a real stranger, so don’t.

Before You Dial

All of these are US numbers billed as normal calls — no premium charges. Calling from outside the US costs whatever your carrier bills for a US call. Lines like these retire without notice; this list was verified in August 2026. And keep pranks kind: what’s funny to you may not be funny to the person on the other end.
