A partnership ad code is a short code (it starts with adcode-) that lets a brand run your Facebook or Instagram post as a paid ad from your handle — without you giving them access to your account. You generate the code from the post’s menu, send it to the brand, and they paste it into Meta Ads Manager. One code works for up to 2 partners and expires after 60 days unless you revoke it sooner.
What Is a Partnership Ad?
Partnership ads (Meta renamed them from “branded content ads”) are ads built from a creator’s post. The ad shows both names in the header — yours and the brand’s — with a Paid partnership label. Brands want them because they perform: Meta’s own data shows partnership ads get about 53% higher click-through rates and 19% lower cost per acquisition than standard brand ads (source: AdNabu).
The ad code system exists so you never have to hand over account access or add the brand as a partner with full permissions. The code only lets them promote that one piece of content.
What You Need Before You Can Get a Code
- A professional account — Creator or Business — on Instagram, or a Facebook Page. Personal profiles can’t generate ad codes.
- Access to branded content tools, which means your account must meet Meta’s branded content eligibility rules (no Community Guidelines strikes, no misinformation flags).
How to Get a Partnership Ad Code on Instagram
While you’re posting a reel, story, or feed post:
- On the final share screen, tap Partnership label & ads.
- Turn on Get partnership ad code.
- Tap Copy to put the code on your clipboard, or send it to the brand in a DM.
- Share the post.
For a post that’s already published:
- Open the post and tap the three dots (top right).
- Tap Partnership label & ads.
- Turn on Get partnership ad code, then copy or DM the code.
How to Get a Partnership Ad Code on Facebook
Facebook doesn’t offer the code during publishing — the post has to be live first:
- Publish the post from your Page.
- Open the published post and tap the three dots (top right).
- Tap Share partnership ad code.
- Turn on Get partnership ad code, then copy the code and send it to your partner.
How the Brand Uses Your Code
On the brand’s side, in Meta Ads Manager:
- Create a campaign and set the objective, audience, budget, and placements as normal.
- At the ad level, toggle on Partnership ad.
- Choose Enter partnership ad code and paste the creator’s code.
- The post loads as the ad creative. Publish.
The brand pays for the ad; nothing is charged to the creator.
Expiry, Limits, and Revoking a Code
- 60 days — a code stops working 60 days after you generate it. Generate a fresh one for a new campaign flight.
- 2 partners — one code can be used by at most 2 partners at a time.
- Revoke any time — go back to the same menu on the post and turn the toggle off (or tap Revoke). Running ads stop; your original post stays up.
Why the Toggle Might Be Missing
- Your account is personal, not professional — switch in Settings → Account type and tools.
- Your account doesn’t meet branded content eligibility yet, or has an active Community Guidelines strike.
- The content itself is ineligible (music with restricted licensing is the common one for reels).
- The code “doesn’t work” for the brand — it has usually expired (60 days) or hit the 2-partner limit; generate a new one.
Agree on the ad-usage window and fee with the brand before you send the code — the code controls access, but the contract controls payment.
