Verizon drop-off locations (Complete Guide)

posted on May 7, 2026

Can you return Verizon equipment to any Verizon store? No. Fios routers and set-top boxes go back through The UPS Store only. 5G Home and LTE Home gateways can go to The UPS Store or a Verizon company store (after you disconnect). Phones and tablets bought from Verizon can go back to a company store or by mail within 30 days. Authorized retailers (TCC, Victra, Russell Cellular, Cellular Sales) cannot take equipment returns.

What you are returning The UPS Store Verizon company store Authorized retailer Deadline
Fios router, set-top box, extender, Fiber Service Unit Yes (free, no box or label needed) No No 30 days after disconnect
5G Home / LTE Home gateway or extender Yes (free, no label needed) Yes, once service is disconnected No 30 days after disconnect or replacement
Phone, tablet, watch, hotspot bought from Verizon Only if your return ticket has a UPS QR code Yes, with receipt and original box Only where you bought it (own policy) 30 days from purchase, $50 restocking fee
Accessories By mail only Yes Only where you bought it 30 days, no restocking fee

Checked against Verizon’s Fios, Home Internet and wireless return pages, 14 September 2026.

This guide covers what to return, where to drop it off, and how to avoid the unreturned-equipment charge ($90 to $330 per device) and the $50 wireless restocking fee.

What counts as “Verizon equipment”

Two products, two return paths:

Fios home internet/TV: routers, set-top boxes, voice adapters, remote controls (only if a paid replacement was sent), and any Fios-branded accessories shipped with service.

Verizon Wireless: phones, tablets, smartwatches, hotspots, 5G Home and LTE Home routers, and any device returned within the 30-day return window.

Each path has a different process. Don’t drop a Fios router at a Verizon Wireless store — they won’t take it.

How to return Fios equipment (the official way)

  1. Sign in to your Verizon account at verizon.com or open the My Verizon app.
  2. Go to Account → Orders → Return Equipment, or follow the email Verizon sent after you canceled or upgraded service.
  3. Choose UPS Store drop-off with QR code (no box or label needed) or print a prepaid UPS label.
  4. Take the equipment to any The UPS Store location. Show the QR code on your phone. UPS scans your device serial numbers, boxes everything, and ships it for free.
  5. Keep the printed receipt. You should get an email confirmation from Verizon within a few business days.

You have 30 days from your service disconnect date to return Fios equipment, or Verizon bills you for unreturned hardware: $200 for a CR1000 router, $90 to $330 per set-top box, $145 to $175 per extender, $210 for the Fiber Service Unit and power supply, $70 for a CableCARD. How to return a Verizon Wireless device

You have 30 days from purchase to return or exchange a wireless device. There’s a $50 restocking fee on devices (no fee on accessories, and no fee in Hawaii).

Three return options:

  • Mail it back: Use the prepaid label that came in the box, or generate one from My Verizon → Account → Orders.
  • Corporate Verizon store: Bring the device, original packaging, accessories, and your receipt. Find a corporate store using the store locator and filter for “Corporate Store” — authorized retailer locations may refuse the return or apply different rules.
  • UPS Store: If your return ticket includes a UPS QR code, drop the device at any The UPS Store.

Where to find a UPS Store

Use the UPS Store locator. There are about 5,400 UPS Store locations in the US, so you almost always have one within 10–15 miles. The QR code Verizon sends works at any of them.

What to do before you walk in

  • Back up everything. Photos, contacts, two-factor codes. A factory reset is required before return.
  • Sign out of accounts. Apple ID, Google account, Samsung account. If Find My iPhone is still on, the return can be rejected.
  • Remove the SIM and SD card. Verizon does not pull and return them.
  • Pack the original box for wireless devices. Missing chargers or boxes can void the return.
  • Disconnect Fios cables from the wall. Coax, Ethernet, and power cables go back too.

Common return mistakes

  • Walking into the wrong store. Authorized retailers (the small corner Verizon stores) usually can’t process equipment returns. Use the corporate filter on the store locator.
  • Skipping the QR code. Without it, UPS treats your package as a regular shipment and won’t cover the cost.
  • Missing the 30-day window. Verizon’s billing system auto-charges unreturned equipment fees. Disputes after the fact are harder than a timely return.
  • Forgetting Find My iPhone / Google FRP. A locked device gets returned to you and the refund stalls.
  • Throwing away the UPS receipt. It’s your only proof of drop-off if Verizon claims they never got the device.

What if I can’t get to a UPS Store?

Call Verizon support (1-800-VERIZON for wireless, 1-800-837-4966 for Fios) and ask for a return-by-mail kit. They mail a prepaid box to your address. This adds a few days but works for housebound or rural customers.

What if the equipment is broken?

For Fios: Verizon usually accepts broken returns as long as the serial number matches the account. Don’t try to replace it with a different unit.

For Wireless: damage past normal wear voids the return. Cracked screen, water damage, or hard drops mean Verizon either refuses the return or charges a damage fee on top of the $50 restocking fee.

Tracking your return

After UPS scans the equipment, Verizon’s system updates within 3–5 business days. Check My Verizon → Account → Orders → Return Status. If 10 days pass without an update, call support with the UPS tracking number from your receipt.

FAQs

Can I return a Fios router at a Verizon Wireless store?

Usually no. Fios and Wireless run on different return systems. Use The UPS Store with a Verizon-provided QR code.

Is shipping really free?

Yes, when you use the QR code or prepaid label Verizon provides. If you ship without one, you pay UPS retail rates and have no proof of return.

How long do I have to return Fios equipment?

30 days from your service disconnect date.

What’s the unreturned equipment fee?

Verizon lists $200 for a Fios router (CR1000A/B), $90 to $330 per set-top box, $145 for a Fios Extender, $175 for a Wi-Fi tabletop extender and $210 for the Fiber Service Unit. For 5G Home and LTE Home, the gateway is $240 to $300. Fees are per device and bill automatically after the 30-day window.

Can I drop off at a regular Verizon corporate store?

For Fios, no: Verizon’s own return page routes every Fios return through The UPS Store. For 5G Home and LTE Home, yes, at a Verizon company store once the service is disconnected (company stores cannot take back active equipment). Authorized retailers cannot accept either.

Do I get a refund right away?

Refunds for wireless devices process within 1–2 billing cycles after Verizon receives the device.
