          Sign in with a passkey instead of a password<\/h2>\n

          A passkey signs you in with the same fingerprint, face scan, or PIN you use to unlock your device. There is no password to type, so there is nothing for a phishing site to steal. Google keeps your password as a backup method. To create one:<\/p>\n

          1. Go to myaccount.google.com<\/a> and open Security<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          2. Under “How you sign in to Google,” tap Passkeys and security keys<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          3. Tap Create a passkey<\/strong> and confirm with your fingerprint, face, or screen lock.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Forgot your password or email address?<\/h2>\n

            Go to the Google account recovery page<\/a>, then:<\/p>\n

            1. Enter your email \u2014 or tap Forgot email?<\/strong> and enter your recovery phone number or email to find it.<\/li>\n
            2. Pick a verification option: a code sent to your recovery phone or email, or a prompt on a device where you’re already signed in.<\/li>\n

              Fix common sign-in problems<\/h2>\n

              “Couldn’t find your Google account”<\/h3>\n

              Check the spelling of the address \u2014 including the part after @ if you use a work or school account. If you might have signed up with a different address, tap Forgot email?<\/strong> on the sign-in page and enter your recovery phone number or email to find it.<\/p>\n

              Password won’t work<\/h3>\n

              Check Caps Lock, and type the password instead of letting autofill paste an old one. Still locked out? Use the recovery steps above \u2014 and start from a device and network you normally use, because Google approves those attempts more often.<\/p>\n

              Verification code never arrives<\/h3>\n

              Google is phasing out SMS codes in favor of QR codes you scan with your phone camera, passkeys, and app prompts (announced February 2025). If a text doesn’t show up, tap Try another way<\/strong> and pick a Google prompt on a phone where you’re already signed in, your authenticator app, or a backup code.<\/p>\n

              “This browser or app may not be secure”<\/h3>\n

              Google blocks sign-ins from outdated browsers and older mail apps. Update your browser, or add the account through the official Gmail app or your phone’s Settings instead of the old app.<\/p>\n

              Account disabled<\/h3>\n

              Google locks accounts after suspicious activity. Sign in from a device you’ve used before and follow the on-screen instructions \u2014 there’s an option to appeal if you think the lock is a mistake.<\/p>\n
