About Federal University Lafia
Higher education is becoming more important as information becomes more vital. Countries must train all of their youths to excellent quality; a bachelor’s degree has become a requirement for many skilled occupations. These criteria must be centred on the impact of globalisation and rapid technological advances on higher education instruction, teaching, scholarship, and management.
Nigeria’s Federal Government made the decision to build the Federal University, Lafla acknowledges that the international market economy, which is fueled by rising demand for higher education, is a potent weapon for building and maintaining a healthy country. The University will be using current and future technological breakthroughs to transform the mainstream education enterprise while preserving the University’s basic customs and ideals.
The Federal University of Lafia, as well as the other eight federal universities founded by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2011, are the political response to the need for quick economic progress as well as accessibility and equitable challenges.
The Federal University of Lafia will be a global educational establishment that will inspire and prepare smart, devoted, and truly gifted young men and women from all walks of life in Nasarawa State, Nigeria, and beyond to become problem solvers who are well-rounded in their fields of study. While bringing value to Nigeria’s economy, the University will empower them with the information they need to better compete with their colleagues locally and abroad.
The Federal University Lafia began academic work at the former State Secretariat Complex on Obi Road in Lafia, which was provided by the Nasarawa State Government. Before the start of academic operations, there were enough buildings and constructions on the site to serve as offices and classrooms. Existing facilities were refurbished, and new ones were constructed.
In 2015, the university started moving to its permanent location, which is on 206 acres of land granted by the Nasarawa State Government along the Lafia Markurdi Road in Lafia. By 2018, the university’s central authority and all faculties had relocated to its permanent location, with the exception of two.
The Governing Council changed the name of the university to Federal University of Lafia on June 20, 2019. The change was made in response to the Gazette of Federal University Lafia (Establishment) Act 2015, which changed the university’s name.
