Privacy Policy — Sponsor Fast Forward for YouTube

This extension does not collect, transmit, store, or sell your personal data or your watch history, except the optional feedback described below (the message you type in "Report a problem", sent only when you submit it). To find sponsor segments it sends an anonymized 4-character hash prefix of the video ID to the community SponsorBlock service — never the video ID itself, and nothing that can identify you. There is no analytics or tracking of any kind.

What the extension does

On a YouTube video page, the extension:

• Reads the current video's ID from the page URL.
• Computes a one-way SHA-256 hash of that ID and sends only the first 4 hexadecimal characters to the SponsorBlock API (https://sponsor.ajay.app) to request sponsor-segment timings. This is a privacy technique called k-anonymity: the 4-character prefix is shared by many different videos, so the request cannot reveal which video you are watching, and it never contains the video ID itself.
• When playback enters one of those segments, it raises the video's playback speed (and optionally mutes) and then restores your normal speed at the end.

All playback control happens locally in your browser.

Data collection

• No personal information is collected.
• No watch history is stored or transmitted. The extension does not keep a record of what you watch.
• No analytics, telemetry, cookies, fingerprinting, or advertising identifiers.
• No accounts or sign-in.
• The request to SponsorBlock is read-only — the extension never submits, votes on, or edits segments, and sends no account or device identifier.

Settings storage

Your preferences (fast-forward speed, categories, mute option, minimum segment length) are stored using the browser's storage.sync API. They stay in your own browser profile (and, if you enable browser sync, your own browser account). They are never sent to us — we run no server that could receive them.

Permissions and why they are needed

• storage — to remember your settings.
• Host access to https://sponsor.ajay.app/ — to look up sponsor-segment timings for the current video. Only the anonymized 4-character hash prefix is sent; the video ID is never transmitted. Used solely for this lookup.
• Content script on www.youtube.com — to read the current video ID from the URL and adjust the video element's playback speed and mute state during sponsor segments. It does not read page content, forms, messages, or personal data.

Optional feedback

If you use the "Report a problem" feature, the message you type (and an email address, only if you choose to provide one) is sent to us so we can respond. Nothing is sent unless you fill in that form and submit it.

Third-party service

Sponsor-segment timings are provided by SponsorBlock (sponsor.ajay.app), an independent community project, under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. This extension is not affiliated with SponsorBlock. When it requests segment data, SponsorBlock receives only the anonymized 4-character hash prefix described above. See SponsorBlock's own privacy information at sponsor.ajay.app for how that service handles requests.

Changes

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and the new version will ship with the extension.
