Calluses is a skin condition that results from skin layers that have hardened over time, resulting from friction or pressure. Most times, they can cause excruciating pain and irritation, especially when you walk for very long distances or if you are on your feet for long periods of time.

As we turn older, the skin on the bottom part of our feet in the heel or ball section becomes thin. Consequently, calluses form in an bid to shield or protect our feet from the extra chafing and pressure.


How You Can Develop Calluses

Calluses are caused from the following factors:

  • Wearing socks that don’t fit well.
  • Wearing high heels
  • Shoes that are not flexible or too loose.
  • Walking on concrete or other hard surfaces.
  • Diabetics.
  • Those who have flat feet.
  • Repetitive activities such as weightlifting or gardening (develops on the thumbs and palm of your hands).


How You Can Prevent Calluses

Calluses can be prevented by doing the following:

  • Using gloves on your hands.
  • Wearing good fitted shoes.
  • Avoid the use of high heels over long period of time.
  • Don’t walk long distances all the time.
  • Avoid being bare footed, especially when you’re outside your home. keep your feet soft and protected.


How To Treat Calluses

Calluses are caused from the following factors:


Use Baking Soda

Simply take some warm water and add two tablespoons of baking soda. Then, allow your skin to soak for around 30minutes. It will probably take several days of repetitive soaking to totally remove the hardened skin.


Add Epsom Salt To Warm Water

Adding a small amount of Epsom salt along with some warm water will help the skin to soften. Then, you can use an emery board to file the callus down and get rid of the rough skin.


Use A Pumice Stone

Soak the area for ten minutes in warm water. Then, you can use a pumice stone in order to get rid of your calluses. Likewise, you can use either a pumice stone or even a file to help remove the calluses after taking a shower. For the best effectiveness, be sure to rub the area with a strong circular motion. You may also continue to rinse your feet along with the pumice stone for really stubborn calluses. Continue to work on the hardened skin until your skin has a pink tone.


Make A Lemon-Aspirin Paste

Take a few aspirins and crush then until they make a powder. Then, add the powder with water and lemon juice in order to form a paste. Place a large amount of paste onto the area and cover it with a bandage or gauze so that it will remain in place as you go about your daily activities. If you notice that this happens to have a drying effect on your skin, then you can help restore your skin’s moisture by adding a moisturizer such as olive oil or coconut oil.


Apply Vitamin E and A Capsule

Before going to sleep, open a Vitamin E or Vitamin A capsule and place the oil on your callus. Next, place a cotton sock over it and let it remain through the night. Repeat this process until the callus has vanished.
